Vasco face three games in 10 days before the World Cup break, chasing targets on and off the pitch.
The run is 20 May at Olimpia in the Sudamericana, 24 May against RB Bragantino in the league, then 27 May at home to Barracas Central in the Sudamericana. According to Globo.com, the focus spans Sudamericana progress, league safety, player fitness and recruitment.
After losing to Internacional at Beira-Rio, Vasco dropped four places by round 16’s close. They want to hit the pause in the upper part of the table, at least three points clear of the relegation zone. Sunday’s only league game is RB Bragantino, with Vasco on 20 points, two from Corinthians, who hold the first relegation place.
Although not the priority, Wednesday in Paraguay is a direct duel for Group G top spot with Olimpia, both on seven points. Victory would almost secure first and a last 16 berth, while runners-up face a play-off with Libertadores third-placed teams. Renato is expected to go close to full strength, with only those at risk of overload likely to miss out.
He lacked Cuiabano, Paulo Henrique and Adson against Internacional through injury, with Thiago Mendes and Rojas suspended and Spinelli excused for his daughter’s birth. An advanced fitness block is planned around the break to measure cumulative load and post‑pause responses.
Off the pitch, Renato talks with Pedrinho and sporting director Admar Lopes about 3-4 additions in the window, prioritising a right-sided centre-back strong in the air and a physical midfielder.
