Vasco to take club legend to court

Vasco da Gama announced this Monday (6) that it will take legal action against former player Valdir Bigode, following statements in which the ex-striker accused the club of committing irregularities in the order of debt payments.

In an official statement, the club described the claims as “completely unfounded” and said they are “false information,” aimed at destabilizing the ongoing financial restructuring process and judicial recovery.

“Given the seriousness of the statements, former player Valdir ‘Bigode’ will be taken to court and will have to prove what he has been claiming,” Vasco stated.

The statements that prompted the club’s reaction were made by Valdir in recent interviews, in which he criticized the financial management of the current administration and questioned the judicial recovery. According to the former striker, Vasco had “abandoned its employees” and was not paying former staff and athletes.

“The SAF is broke, but it still owns Vasco, but it can’t sell. It’s broke and nobody wants to buy it. It’s in court, in judicial recovery. We’re being left behind,” said Valdir Bigode.

The club, in turn, emphasized that the judicial recovery process is proceeding within the law and that all financial actions are carried out transparently and under judicial supervision.

“Former athlete Valdir ‘Bigode’, in recent interviews, made serious accusations by claiming there were irregularities in the order of debt payments, with supposed privileges granted to certain creditors. Vasco da Gama has already transparently shown that these allegations are completely unfounded. This is false information, whose main objective is to try to destabilize the financial restructuring process and the ongoing judicial recovery. Given the seriousness of the statements, former player Valdir ‘Bigode’ will be taken to court and will have to prove what he has been claiming.”
