Palmeiras have parted, at least for now, with Raphael Veiga, who has joined América, Mexico, on loan until the end of the year. According to Globo.com, the club will keep his locker at the training ground in a break from protocol.

Departing players normally have their photo removed and their locker reassigned. Veiga, one of the club’s most decorated figures after nine years, will keep his space. Before leaving he placed a folded note inside, to be opened only when he returns.

The loan includes a $6.5 million purchase option, roughly R$ 34.1 million at Monday’s rate. América must notify by the middle of December whether they will activate it. A comeback could therefore be in January 2027, or later.

Before the move was finalised, Palmeiras extended Veiga’s contract to the end of 2028 to protect value and strengthen the option figure. The club do not view his switch as a full stop, and believe he could play next season if he regains form and chooses to return.

Injury issues hampered him last season, when he played 53 games, scored seven goals and supplied 11 assists. At Palmeiras since 2017, he amassed 109 goals and 11 trophies, becoming a modern idol.
