Venezia coach Eusebio Di Francesco has provided a worrying update on a tendon issue for goalkeeper Filip Stankovic.

Di Francesco admitted that it “doesn’t seem like a small thing” for the Serb in his post-match comments, via FCInterNews. He did not rule out a lengthy time on the sidelines.

Venezia suffered a big blow during today’s Serie A match against Udinese.

In the eighteenth minute, Inter-owned goalkeeper Filip Stankovic had to come off the pitch.

The 22-year-old has been one of Venezia’s outstanding players this season.

Stankovic’s saves have been key to getting the Lagunari points in their bid for Serie A survival.

And even in matches where Venezia have not won, Filip Stankovic has shone. He produced a string of outstanding saves against his parent club Inter which restricted the Nerazzurri to two 1-0 wins.

Stankovic also saved a penalty from Romelu Lukaku in a loss to Napoli.

Venezia were therefore disappointed to see Stankovic have to come off.

The Serb has yet to undergo medical tests on the injury that forced him off.

Tests should give a clearer indication of how long Stankovic will be out.

But the prospect of Stankovic being out for any length of time will be a worrying one for Venezia.

Moreover, it would make it less obvious that the Lagunari will sign Filip Stankovic on a permanent basis from Inter at the end of the season.

After today’s match, Venezia coach Di Francesco said that “He suffered a bit of a problem with his patellar tendon.”

“That’s a shame, because it gives you confidence and security,” he continued.

As far as whether Stankovic could be out for a while, Di Francesco admitted “I don’t know, I’m not a doctor.”

“I can only interpret it,” he added. “But it doesn’t seem like a small thing. He seems to have a problem with his patellar tendon.”
