Arsenal left it late but secured crucial 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening edging dramatic Premier League encounter at the Emirates Stadium during matchday 16.

Mikel Arteta’s side dominated large spells of the contest and were eventually rewarded with stoppage-time winner allowing the Gunners to remain top of the Premier League table with 36 point.

The hosts controlled proceedings from the opening whistle enjoying 73% possession during the first half hour compared to Wolves 27 percent.

Arsenal consistently pushed forward pinning the visitors deep inside their own half.

Despite their territorial dominance, clear-cut chances were limited before the break as Wolves defended compactly.

Second half pressure Pays Off

Arsenal resumed the second half with renewed intensity. Early efforts were blocked by stubborn Wolves backline while Gabriel Martinelli came close in the 56 minute with strike that flashed just wide of the post.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 70 minute, albeit in fortunate circumstances. Under sustained pressure, Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone turned the ball into his own net handing Arsenal deserved lead.

Late drama at the Emirates

The drama intensified late on. Leandro Trossard went close in the 83 minute firing narrowly wide from inside the penalty area as Arsenal searched for second goal.

However Wolves stunned the Emirates in the 90 minute. A dangerous cross from Matheus Nunes found Akor Adams who rose highest to power header past the Arsenal goalkeeper and level the score at 1-1.

Just when it appeared Arsenal would be forced to settle for draw, fortune smiled again. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Gabriel Jesus effort deflected off Santiago Mosquera and into the Wolves net sealing dramatic late winner.
