Bayern Munich unveiled bronze statue of German football legend Franz Beckenbauer on Friday in front of the club’s iconic Allianz Arena.

A Symbolic Location

The monument stands next to the statue of fellow Bayern icon Gerd Muller reuniting the "Kaiser" & the "Bomber" just outside the stadium gates.

Beckenbauer who passed away on 7 Jan 2024 at the age of 78 played decisive role in the construction of the Allianz Arena inaugurated in 2005 alongside Uli Hoeneß & Karl Heinz Rummenigge.

Created by artist Matilde Romagnoli, the sculpture portrays Beckenbauer in his signature libero role, right foot resting on the ball & wearing Bayern’s early 1970s kit.

The statue's one and a half times life size, mounted on base inspired by Bavaria’s traditional diamond pattern.

Tribute Beyond the Statue

The unveiling forms part of broader tribute series: Bayern retired Beckenbauer’s red No5 jersey and both the square & street leading to the stadium now bear the name "Franz Beckenbauer 5"

Legacy Remembered

Beckenbauer left unmatched legacy .. Euro 1972 champion, World cup 1974 winner, 3 time European cup champion (1974 /76) and World cup winning coach in 1990.

He later served as influential football administrator for more than 5 decades.
