League responds after tunnel video sparks debate

(Video) Did Lionel Messi confront match officials after Inter Miami’s defeat? MLS respond
MLS officials rejected claims that Lionel Messi confronted match officials after Inter Miami’s 3-0 defeat to Los Angeles.
A video shared on social media claimed that Lionel Messi tried to confront referees in the stadium tunnel after Inter Miami lost 3-0 away to Los Angeles FC.
The match took place early Sunday as part of the Major League Soccer season.
The clip showed Luis Suarez calming Messi down near the tunnel. Messi then briefly left the camera view before reappearing and walking toward Inter Miami’s dressing room alongside his teammate.
A spokesperson for Major League Soccer addressed the incident and denied any wrongdoing. The official explained that the area Messi entered was not restricted and should have been clearly marked if it were.
According to the league, Messi did not enter the referees dressing room which is strictly off-limits to players. After reviewing the full timeline, MLS said there was no breach of league rules by Messi or anyone else.
The comments were reported by Eurosport on Monday.
The MLS review found no evidence to support the claims circulating online. As a result, the league confirmed that no disciplinary action is being considered against Messi.
The defeat marked difficult evening for Inter Miami who failed to score and struggled throughout the match.
Emotions ran high at full-time, but league officials stressed that such reactions are common after tough losses and must be judged based on facts not short video clips.
