Romeo Lavia was a great choice to speak to the TV cameras after Chelsea’s vital win yesterday.
Not only did he play an excellent game, it was also a big moment for him as he returned from his latest frustrating injury absence. He spoke to Chelsea TV post match and was absolutely beaming.
“It was amazing. Amazing. Especially to have your first game back at home,” the Belgian grinned when asked how it felt to be back.
“It was a special feeling, so I’m really happy and happy as well that we got the win.”
He was asked about his fitness – he played just over an hour and said he felt “really good”.
“Maybe [the decision to take him off] is just a technical decision. I’m all for it, if it’s to get the win, I’m all for it… I’ve been preparing for this moment… It’s been a long time but I’m sure it will come out well.
He even compared the feeling of being out to being “like a lion in a cage.”

It was instantly clear that Lavia’s return was good for the team. He offers more defensively than Enzo Fernandez, and frees up the Argentine to play further forward.
As we saw today (and we suspect we’ll see again next weekend), having Lavia in the middle means Moises Caicedo can play at right back. His manager called him “one of the the best midfielders,” because of his versatility, and we expect the Italian coach to use Lavia as much as the medical staff will allow him to between now and the end of the season.
IT might be just what we need.
