According to Globo.com, Viery, a 21-year-old Grêmio academy centre-back, has gone from near exit to first-choice under Luís Castro and is drawing European interest.

He has made 18 appearances in 2026, with one goal and one assist.

Out of favour last year, he was headed for the exit after the board rejected an August offer from Al Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. A later approach from an undisclosed European club was deemed a lower tier by his camp and was dropped.

A new regime arrived on eight December and executive Paulo Pelaipe blocked his departure, also turning down a Botafogo loan with an option to buy. In January his deal was extended to December 2029, from mid 2027.

He debuted in 2025, playing 12 times, some at left-back, before re-establishing himself in his natural role in central defence.

A starting run, including the Gauchão finals alongside Gustavo Martins, has widened his market, with scouts valuing his left foot and personality. He is being tracked by Benfica, Lille, Bologna, Brighton and Newcastle.

A bid could arrive in the next window, from 20 July to 11 September, and a sale is seen as one way to ease finances, with liabilities at R$ 516.4 million against a R$ 576 million budget.
