Villarreal set a club record for first-half points with a 3-1 victory over Deportivo Alavés, taking their tally to 41.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, it is the first time the Submarino have reached or surpassed 40 points in the opening half of a league campaign.

Their previous best halfway total was 39 points, achieved in 2010/11 and 2015/16.

The first half still includes a postponed fixture against Levante, called off due to an orange alert in the province of Valencia.

Head coach Marcelino also matched his best home return across a single round, first set in 2015/16, with eight wins, one draw and one defeat, totalling 25 points, the same as now.
