Villarreal players and supporters are urging a Spain call for Alberto Moleiro after his latest standout display. Luis de la Fuente left him out of the squad for Friday’s Spain v Serbia at Estadio de la Cerámica, 21.00.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, team-mates and staff serenaded Moleiro with chants of “Moleiro selección” after the 3-1 win over Real Sociedad last Friday. It came only hours after the list was named, a decision that disappointed the player and the Villarreal fanbase.

Moleiro thanked his colleagues for backing him. He said winning was what mattered, and that a Spain call would be a reward if it arrives.

He also praised the collective effort, saying Villarreal are third and will fight to finish as high as possible.

In a survey of Villarreal fans around Spain’s arrival in Vila-real, many felt Moleiro and Gerard Moreno should have been included. Supporters were pleased to see the national team play at La Cerámica and some were keen to watch Joan García.

Others lamented injuries restricting Gerard and Ayoze Pérez, and one fan even cited Pau Torres because of his Vila-real roots.
