Aston Villa came from behind twice to eventually defeat West Ham United at the London Stadium and keep their winning run going.

Portuguese midfielder Matheus Fernandes took just 29 seconds to open the scoring for West Ham, capitalising on an unusual ball loss by Ezri Konsa near the goal line. Fernandes finished with class to put Nuno Espírito Santo's side ahead.

That goal was the fastest of the Premier League season and immediately gave the Londoners an advantage in this electrifying encounter.

Despite the initial shock, Aston Villa did not lose control and progressively took over ball possession. The visitors equalised following an unfortunate own goal by Kostas Mavropanos in the ninth minute before Jarrod Bowen restored the lead for West Ham.

In the second half, Unai Emery's team increased the pace and found in Morgan Rogers the decisive figure of the match.

The attacking midfielder scored twice, first with a simple finish after a cross from Youri Tielemans and, close to the end, with a superb long-range shot that completed the comeback.

With this victory, Aston Villa achieves its sixth consecutive win in the Premier League and consolidates its excellent form.

The Villans now move up to third place in the table, just three points behind the leader. In such a competitive league, this winning streak reinforces the idea that Villa is increasingly a force to be reckoned with in the fight for top spots. Meanwhile the Hammers put in a solid shift but remain in the relegation zone.
