Vinicius–Prestiani affair: Carreras steers clear of controversy

Álvaro Carreras, Real Madrid's left-back, has chosen not to comment on the controversy that erupted following his team's clash with Benfica, after the incident involving his teammate Vinicius Junior and Gianluca Prestiani.

UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body handed Prestiani a one-match suspension after opening an investigation into allegations of racist remarks directed at the Brazilian international.

"I'm not getting involved in this matter"

In an interview with the Portuguese daily A Bola, Carreras admitted that the match had been particularly hard-fought. He emphasized that Real Madrid had prepared for Benfica's intense pressure and achieved their goal by securing qualification.

The Spanish defender also expressed his delight at facing his former club, stating that he maintains excellent relations with the Lisbon squad and holds the institution in high regard.

Asked about the Vinicius–Prestiani affair, Carreras was keen to distance himself:

"No, I have more important things to talk about. I have very good relations with everyone and I'm not getting involved in this matter."

As a reminder, Real Madrid triumphed in both playoff matches against Benfica, taking the first leg (1-0) and confirming their superiority in the return leg with a 2-1 victory.
