Vitor Pereira has announced his departure from Nottingham Forest, and the club are in advanced talks to appoint Oliver Glasner as head coach, a move that would make the Austrian their fifth manager in less than a year.

Pereira said in a statement on Wednesday that the decision took him completely by surprise and came without warning, though he respected the club’s right to act. He thanked those connected with Forest, expressed disappointment but also pride, and said he leaves without bitterness.

Glasner is a free agent after leaving Crystal Palace, where he won the FA Cup in 2024-25, then the Community Shield and Conference League the following season. The 51-year-old was set to leave Palace at the end of the campaign after two years in charge, and he is set to remain in the Premier League.

Pereira, 57, was appointed in February on an 18-month contract running until 2027. He succeeded Sean Dyche.

His arrival made him Forest’s fourth permanent manager of the season after Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou had departed. The team were three points above the relegation zone at that point.

He led Forest to Premier League safety with two games to spare and into the Europa League semi-finals.
