Vitor Reis, Girona’s 20-year-old Brazilian centre-back on loan from Manchester City, will miss Saturday’s visit of Athletic at Montilivi through suspension, meaning the only two games he will have missed to date are both against the Basque side.

He spent 13 matches on four bookings, then, in the 14th, was cautioned against Levante, which triggers a one-game suspension for the Athletic fixture.

Earlier in the season he received a straight red, again against Levante, for a heavy challenge on Carlos Álvarez.

The first meeting with Athletic finished 1-1 without him, and Girona will hope, at minimum, to repeat that outcome.

It is a major loss for Míchel Sánchez, who has few centre-backs, and the Brazilian has been near ever-present with 26 league appearances, 25 starts, and a team-high 2,238 minutes.
