Wallace Yan has lost his place in Flamengo’s recent squads, with Leonardo Jardim citing a lack of full integration with the group.
After coming off the bench against Vasco, he was omitted for the trips to Independiente Medellín and Grêmio. According to Globo.com, Jardim felt others offered more solutions at that moment, though he still counts on the talented forward and says he could be an option again soon.
The stance echoed his earlier explanation when Plata was left out. Jardim also stressed they like the academy graduate, but every player must align with the collective dynamic, with team performance the guiding principle.
Known for daily dialogue and a firm approach, the Portuguese coach does not accept anything short of full commitment to his ideas.
What told against Wallace last week was his day-to-day level and a late cameo against Vasco, where he was involved in the goals that brought the hosts level at São Januário.
He has a chance to return to contention this week. Flamengo rest on Monday, train on Tuesday, then fly to Salvador on Wednesday to face Vitória on Thursday in the Copa do Brasil, where rotation has been greater and which could aid his reset.
Since Jardim’s arrival, Wallace has featured against Cruzeiro, Corinthians, Bragantino, Independiente Medellín and Vasco, mostly for brief spells. His only outing exceeding 10 minutes, excluding stoppage time, came in Bragança Paulista.
