Walsall have sacked manager Matt Sadler following a sixth defeat in the team's last eight games last night.

The Saddlers lost 1-0 away to Salford City last night with Fabio Borini scoring a 74th-minute winner for the home side that ultimately saw the end of Sadler's reign.

"I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the significant efforts and contributions of Mat, both as a professional and as a person, during his time at the Club," said the club's co-chairman, Ben Boycott about the decision.

"We thank him for his dedicated service and wish him the very best for the future."

Sadler was close to leading Walsall to League One last season, reaching the play-off final before a narrow defeat to AFC Wimbledon at Wembley.

The current campaign started well but the team have lost steam since the start of the new year having picked up just two wins in 2026 which has seen Walsall drift further away from a play-off place.

Darren Byfield has taken charge of the team for now with Walsall next travelling to face Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.
