Keira Walsh scored the only goal of the game with a moment of magic as Chelsea defeated Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have started life well under manager Martin Ho while the Blues have not looked at their best despite dominating domestically last season. If there was ever a chance for an upset it looked like this could have been the game.

Indeed, Tottenham managed to frustrate Chelsea for the majority of the game and survived a bombardment of shops and some excellent football by Alyssa Thompson in particular, with the American making just her second WSL start.

The game-deciding goal came with just over an hour gone in the game. Spurs were unable to clear their lines allowing Chelsea to recycle the ball. Ellie Carpenter gave the ball to Walsh who produced a superb goal as she eased past Beth England before firing in a powerful low drive from outside the box into the bottom left corner with Lize Kop having no chance of stopping it.

Walsh celebrated with her captain Millie Bright after the goal as the defender made her 300th appearance for Chelsea.

The visitors weren't able to find a way back into the game meaning that the champions will again remain top of the WSL for another week.

Perhaps the only slight concern for Sonia Bompastor will be Chelsea's relatively low goal output by their own high standards. After 27 shots in total, the league leaders would have been expected to win the game without the need for Walsh's excellent long-range effort.
