Real Madrid will close to within a point of Real Madrid if they defeat Mallorca, but their plans to do so have been thwarted by the home side, who have taken the lead just before half time at Son Moix.

Morlanes fires Mallorca in front before half time

Minutes after missing a big chance of their own, Mallorca have now hit the front. Pablo Maffeo’s cross was expertly controlled by Manu Morlanes, who coolly finished beyond Andriy Lunin on the half volley.

Arbeloa needs to bring home success in order to give himself a chance of staying on as Real Madrid manager, but as things stand, they would be at risk of going seven points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race – which could be an insurmountable deficit at this stage of the season.
