Barcelona’s 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano last weekend was already filled with drama on the pitch, but the tension did not end with the final whistle.
As the players made their way towards the locker room, emotions spilled over, with Barcelona’s stars facing hostility from sections of the home crowd.
The tunnel area at Vallecas is close to the stands, and as the Barça players retreated, cameras caught a tense exchange between a fan and the team.
Alejandro Balde, who had approached with the intention of handing a sweatshirt or shirt to a supporter, suddenly found himself on the receiving end of harsh words.
“You can’t even win by stealing here, dogs, this is Vallecas,” the fan shouted at Balde from just a few feet away.
Next to Balde, Frenkie de Jong also looked surprised at the outburst. Both players stood stunned as the fan continued, warning Balde that if he handed anything out, it would be taken away from the recipient.
De Jong quickly advised his teammate to head into the locker room rather than continue the exchange.
The confrontation did not stop there. Another part of the exchange was also caught on camera as the fan insisted,
“We don’t give away jerseys here in Vallecas, OK? If you give any away, we’ll take them back, so get out, and outside, you can give away whatever you want.”
The comments were directed not only at Balde and De Jong but also at Marc Casado, who happened to be walking past and was left surprised by the heated scene.
Adding to the hostility, Lamine Yamal – already at the centre of controversy after winning a penalty for Barcelona during the match – was targeted by Rayo fans throwing objects from the stands.
The young forward was clearly singled out as frustrations boiled over.
