Ange Postecoglou remained level headed after his Tottenham side knocked Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup.
The win came by way of an early Timo Werner breakaway goal, with the German using his pace to great effect as he got in behind and finished smartly beyond Stefan Ortega.
Spurs doubled their lead through a Pape Sarr screamer just 20 minutes later, and, while Matheus Nunes pulled one back for the visitors in first half stoppage time, it proved not be enough to overturn the result.
“There’s always opportunity if you keep winning,” Postecoglou said of his side’s chances in the competition.
“There’s still decent teams in [the competition]. We’re only at the quarter final stage, but for us what’s important is we’re in it. As long as we stay in it then we have a chance.”
When asked whether this would be a pivotal moment for his Tottenham career, he said: “I’m not gonna go for big steps forward or big steps back, we’re the same team we were three days ago. We are a side that is growing, we are developing, I’ve seen progress and continue to see progress but we are going to have stumbles on the way.
“Tonight does not mean we need to change our approach. We just need to keep working on what we’ve been doing and keep believing in what we’ve been doing and the process of what we’re trying to build.
“They need to have these experiences of difficult times and how they cope with them and react to them is important. You don’t want difficult times to last too long, for us this year we bounced back whenever we have had a bit of a stumble, but the idea is not to stumble too often.”
