FC Barcelona got another hard-fought victory in La Liga as they faced Osasuna at El Sadar last night, and came away with a 1-2 win. All the three goals of the game came quite late, after the 80th minute mark, and thus, it was not really an easy match for the Blaugranes.
This win means the Catalans are even closer to getting their league title now, and can be proclaimed champions as soon as tonight, if Real Madrid are unable to get the full three points from their game against Espanyol.
Still, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, Hansi Flick was not yet celebrating the La Liga title as he talked to the press after the game. Meanwhile, he praised his team for their performance against a difficult opponent:
“We have to wait. We did our job, and I appreciate that. The team was very good against a very strong opponent, and we defended well.”
The German coach reiterated that he was not focused on the future for now:
“For me, today it was important to do our job. I can’t think about what will happen tomorrow. It’s true that we are in a good situation, but we have to wait.”
The Barcelona coach was particularly happy with how his team has performed in the absence of some key players:
“We have had to deal with many injuries, and that is what we must improve next season. What we are doing is fantastic—they have improved a lot, and that makes me feel positive about the future. It is a young team with a lot of potential.”
When asked if he would be watching Real Madrid’s game against Espanyol, the German coach was not too sure:
“I have tickets to see El Mago Pop with my wife—I think it’s his final show. I don’t know what I’ll do tomorrow; maybe I’ll go see it.”
Even though Hansi Flick downplayed its importance, there is no doubt that a significant portion of Barcelona fans would be watching the game between their two bitter rivals, especially as its result can directly lead to them becoming the La Liga champions tonight.
