Arsenal registered a statement win over Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, beating Los Blancos 2-1 at the Bernabeu to go through 5-1 on aggregate. The remontada much prophecised did not come to fruition as Mikel Arteta’s side strolled into the semi-finals, setting up a rematch against Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG made tougher work of their quarter-final. It looked like it would be smooth sailing for Luis Enrique’s side, who carried a 3-1 lead to Villa Park. PSG then added to their advantage early on against Aston Villa, netting two first-half goals without reply to go 5-1 up before Unai Emery’s side came roaring back.
Aston Villa went on to win the game 3-2, losing 5-4 on aggregate. Bukayo Saka, who netted in that historic win against Real Madrid, has now sent out a warning to PSG. “We showed that we were able to beat one of the best teams home and away. We have sent a message,” said the England international.
PSG perhaps don’t need any warning. Arsenal beat Les Parisiens earlier this season, coming out 2-0 winners at the Emirates during the ‘League Phase’ of the competition.
