AS Monaco have managed to stop the rot. A run of four consecutive defeats in Ligue 1 (and seven in their last eight), was brought to an end thanks to a 0-0 draw towards the end of January. The Principality club have since tentatively moved forward.
Monaco are unbeaten in their last three in the league and have kept a clean sheet in all of those matches. And despite a sub-par season so far, they remain in touching distance of the European places, despite their current standing in 10th.
The UEFA Europa Conference League places are just three points away, and Lille OSC, who sit fifth and currently occupy the UEFA Europa League spot, are just five points away. Everything is still to play for.
“We are five points away from fifth; it means that we are not far. But it doesn’t make us think that we have a margin [for error]. We are aware that we are below expectations. It is close for the European places. We know that we can’t leave too many points on the table if we are to get into Europe. We have to get on the wagon; that starts on Friday (against FC Nantes), for sure,” said Sébastien Pocognoli in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
