West Ham United head coach Rita Guarino says that her side are taking it game-by-game as they enter the final block of matches in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The Hammers are four points clear of bottom club Leicester City with three games remaining. The East Londoners are in touching distance of confirming their place in the top tier for another year.

While West Ham United are closing in on survival, head coach Guarino says that her side are not focusing on the maths. The team are simply taking things one game at a time.

“We are very focused on taking things step-by-step, game-by-game,” Guarino said when speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s trip to Liverpool. “Now, we are focused on Liverpool and trying to get points, we are not focused on the mathematics. At the end of the season, we will see where we are.

“In this moment, we have to look at it game-by-game and try to do our best to take points.”

Liverpool invested heavily in their squad in January and Guarino acknowledges the fact that The Reds have performed well in the second half of the season.

She said “They have grown and are a different team to when they started the season. They have obtained many good results and we have as well.

“We know that they are playing very well and they are a good team. We are aware of this and we will fight against a good team.”

With three games remaining, Guarino says that the focus is on building West Ham United’s identity in-line with their process.

She said “We are in a process and what I want to see is that we can grow in this process. I want consistency from my players in terms of approaching things in the right way in what we prepare and the principles of the games. I want to see the progress with this. It’s not just about results, it’s about how we want to play.

“We are in the process of finding out our identity and in many games, we have seen this. It’s just about maintaining the process, it’s very important.”

West Ham United’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Liverpool kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
