Manchester United are determined to finalise the transfer of Atalanta midfielder Ederson despite reports of uncertainty within the club.

Nevertheless, the Brazilian star became the first MUFC target to be involved in concrete negotiations.

Over the past few days, almost all sources in Italy and England have agreed that Ederson has an accord with Man Utd on personal terms.

The 26-year-old has given his priority to the Red Devils, and he’s hoping that the two clubs can strike an agreement, giving him the green light to fly to Manchester.

Nevertheless, some sources, including Fabrizio Romano, have claimed that United remain hesitant, as they continue to mull over Ederson, wondering whether they should proceed with the deal or move to other targets.

But according to Carrington insider Sully, the club’s directors had long assessed the player, and they’re keen to find an agreement with Atalanta. The reliable journalist expects the deal to reach the final line, barring any late twists.

“The general consensus internally is that Éderson is expected to join MUFC barring any last-minute setback,” posted Sully on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

“The whole recruitment + data team are aligned on the deal. I don’t believe it was a case of us being undecided. Thank you for all the support in the past weeks. We move.”

Will Man Utd meet Atalanta’s asking price?

With all due respect to the sources that reported Man Utd’s reluctance to finalise the transfer, the whole plot didn’t add up.

When a club reaches an agreement with a player on personal terms and enters into club-to-club negotiations, it usually means that the scouting and assessment process is now behind us.

It now remains to be seen if United can find an agreement with Atalanta on the transfer, as La Dea continues to request €45 million (or £39 million).

While the Premier League club afford this figure, many would consider it excessive, especially with the midfielder’s contract expiring in June 2027.

Therefore, Jason Wilcox and Co. might try to lower the asking price in their negotiations with the Italian club. Nevertheless, we expect Ederson to end up at Carrington sooner or later.
