Eintracht Frankfurt and the City of Frankfurt welcome representatives and youth players from Ukrainian top-flight club FC Karpaty Lviv.

From 25 to 28 April, Ukrainian first-division club FC Karpaty Lviv will be visiting the heart of Europe with a delegation of club officials and players from the U16 youth team. The meeting is all about sporting exchange – and at the same time sends out a strong signal of solidarity.

Since the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine on 24 February 2022, Eintracht Frankfurt has engaged in various initiatives for the war-torn country. The first expressions of solidarity, such as the ‘Stop it, Putin!’ message before the home match against Bayern Munich, fundraising campaigns by the sports departments and an event at the Eintracht Museum in September 2023 (‘Ukraine - Football and Fans in Times of War’) are evidence of the depth of the solidarity.

A special guest at that event was Oleg Soldatenko, an ardent Karpaty Lviv supporter. This encounter marked the start of a close relationship between the two clubs, which has grown further since the twinning of the cities of Lviv and Frankfurt in 2024.

Now this bond is taking on a new form: on Sunday 27 April, the U16 teams of Eintracht Frankfurt and Karpaty Lviv will meet at Riederwald for a friendly match that is open to the public. Kick-off is at 11:00 CEST, accompanied by an appeal for donations to the Clinical Center of Children's Healthcare in Lviv. The hospital, which cares for over 20,000 seriously ill children every year, was selected as a donation target on the recommendation of Karpaty Lviv, and has served as a refuge for injured and seriously ill children from all over Ukraine since the beginning of the war.

On Saturday, the guests will attend the Bundesliga match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Leipzig. Ahead of the game, the youth divisions of the two clubs will meet to exchange technical knowledge. “It’s a great pleasure for us to be able to welcome our friends from Lviv to Frankfurt,” said board member Philipp Reschke. “This encounter represents far more than just football – it’s a living symbol of European solidarity and closeness. At the same time, it’s important to us to offer our guests a few carefree and enriching days – particularly in these challenging times.”
