Arsenal are considering plans to expand the Emirates Stadium’s capacity which would see it become the largest club ground in London.

They are exploring potentially increasing the capacity from 60,700 to over 70,000, which could see them temporarily move home matches to Wembley Stadium while works are underway, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The proposed redevelopment would largely take place within the existing structure, adjusting stand gradients and seating layouts while keeping the outer design largely unchanged.

The expansion aims to address the club’s season ticket waiting list, which now stands at over 100,00, and boost matchday revenue.

The project is expected to cost several hundreds of millions and would impact most areas of the stadium.

This move would restore the Emirates as the largest football ground in London, surpassing Tottenham and West Ham and put it behind only Wembley.

Arsenal’s matchday earnings have fallen behind rivals in recent years, with average gate receipts between 2021 and 2024 trailing both Tottenham and Manchester United.

The club marks its 20-year anniversary at the Emirates next August.
