The Bundesliga side are working on a potential loan move, though final details of the deal are still under negotiation.

While personal terms with the player are believed to be agreed, discussions between the two clubs are ongoing. It remains unclear whether the move will include an option or obligation to buy at the end of the loan spell.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke is said to be hesitant to finalise the transfer until the club secures a suitable replacement for Schmidt, who has featured regularly in pre-season preparations.

The 22-year-old defender joined Leeds from Swiss side St. Gallen and has impressed with his pace and work rate down the flank.

With Bremen looking to strengthen their defensive depth ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign, Schmidt is seen as a promising addition.

Further developments are expected in the coming days as negotiations continue.
