A 2-1 victory over Oxford United just before the international break was crucial in alleviating some pressure off of West Brom manager Ryan Mason, who had been coming under increased scrutiny in recent weeks over the Baggies' performances and results.

West Brom emerged as strong play-off contenders at the beginning of the campaign, with the goals of Isaac Price in particular shooting them up the league table.

But a run of just three wins in their last 11 outings has seen Mason come under fire for his side's poor results, with the most recent win against Oxford proving to be a crucial one in diverting attention away from his role over the international break.

The Baggies currently sit in 14th, just four points off the play-off places, though their 14 goals scored are among the lowest tallies in the division, with only Portsmouth, Sheffield United, and Sheffield Wednesday scoring fewer than them at this stage.

With the January window around the corner, Mason will no doubt have one eye on recruits to his side, and West Brom have seen themselves reportedly linked with former Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara, but face competition from both Leicester City and Ipswich Town for his signature.

Kamara made 37 Championship appearances for Leeds during his solitary campaign in West Yorkshire in the 2023/24 season, with the Whites narrowly losing out in the play-off final to Southampton, and since then, the Finnish international has struggled to find a home.

Contracted to French outfit Rennes, Kamara spent the second half of last season on loan with Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia, and upon his return to France, he has barely featured, sparking rumours of a move back to England this January.

Football League World's West Brom pundit, Callum, has shared their view on whether they think that Kamara would be a good signing for the Baggies and what he could add to the side's midfield.

Callum said, "When Kamara was last in the division with Leeds, he definitely showed his quality, and I think that he is the type of midfielder that Albion are missing.

"He's got the energy that the likes of Collyer and Molumby possess, but he has also got ability on the ball, like Mowatt, for example, and I think that he's going to be very helpful at breaking down defences, if Albion were to sign him.

"He's definitely a talented and creative midfielder, I'd say, and I think that he's definitely got the quality to be amongst some of the best signings in the division if Albion were to get their hands on him.

At 30-years-old, Kamara ought to be in and around the prime of his career. However, he has played just 19 minutes of club football for Rennes this season, having remained on the bench in most games or not being included in the matchday squad entirely.

A move this January seems like the best decision for all parties, though his next destination is currently up in the air, with each of West Brom, Leicester, and Ipswich reportedly battling it out for his signature.

The Baggies have the likes of Ousmane Diakite, Toby Collyer, Jayson Molumby, Callum Styles, and Krystian Bielik who can all operate at the base of a midfield two in Mason's preferred 4-2-3-1 shape, though the latter two are seen more as defenders, and Kamara would prove an extra experienced option in the centre of the park.

Should West Brom beat the aforementioned clubs to Kamara's signature, they will get a 70-time capped Finnish international, who has starred up in Scotland with Rangers over the years and played a in a Europa League final.

Kamara would without a doubt improve the Baggies midfield, and West Brom should do everything they can to secure his signature, and could be available for as little as £2.6m this winter window.
