West Brom endured a miserable 2025/26, but caretaker and club legend James Morrison guided them clear of League One danger.

ExpressAndStar.com reports that average player ratings across the campaign for the 10 most-used starters put midfielders on top, with Jayson Molumby and Alex Mowatt both averaging six point four.

Molumby scored vital goals against Swansea and Southampton, then blotted his copybook with a red at Coventry but responded. Mowatt, often displaced by Ousmane Diakite late on, remained dependable.

Double player of the season Callum Styles averaged six point three, consistent yet scoreless.

Isaac Price’s five point nine reflects a swing, bright under Ryan Mason with goals, then a slump and a flashpoint with supporters, before a late revival to finish with nine.

Mikey Johnston had nine assists by new year and was often the chief creator. His season ended with a broken ankle at Oxford in Morrison’s first game, before the 10-match saving run.

Nat Phillips started well then faltered before improving alongside George Campbell under Morrison. Campbell, used at right-back under Mason until after Christmas, excelled in his natural role with key goals.

Josh Griffiths, first choice until December, lost his place to Joe Wildsmith under Mason, then to Max O’Leary from January. His standout display came at Norwich.

Diakite’s late surge, often ahead of Mowatt, earned a triggered extension and a first international call, his average six point three. Striker Aune Heggebo finished as 10-goal top scorer after bursts and droughts in a testing first year.
