West Brom boss Ryan Mason once again eased the pressure on his shoulders as his team secured a vital 2-0 win over Sheffield United last Friday evening.

Kicking off the weekend, action came from The Hawthorns, with Albion hosting a Blades outfit who had won four out of their last five league games in the second-tier.

The Baggies were shaky in the first half, being caught out numerous times playing out from the back, typified when Albion shot-stopper Joe Wildsmith had to palm behind a venomous Gus Hamer strike when Ousmane Diakite was robbed of possession deep into his own half.

It was a match that lacked a lot of quality in the opening 45 minutes, but Mason’s men sprung to life in the second period, taking the game to the Yorkshire outfit and opening the scoring two minutes into it.

George Campbell’s fizzing low cross was dispatched expertly by the man of the moment, Aune Heggebo, with the frontman making it seven goals in his last seven games.

The three points were then sealed as Karlan Grant latched onto a through pass from Heggebo, and despite a tangle of legs with Mark McGuinness, rifled his effort off the underside of the bar to give Mason some respite heading into the hectic Christmas period.

The Baggies still sit 15th in the Championship table, but this can hopefully be the springboard for some consistency over the coming weeks and months.

Once again in the Championship, attacking midfielder Tammer Bany was an unused substitute for West Brom, which is becoming a common theme under Mason.

The £3.3m arrival from Randers last February has been a disastrous investment so far, with multiple injury issues meaning the Jordan international has actually played more minutes for his country in one game than he has done over the entirety of his spell in the Black Country.

Bany has worked his way back from a hamstring issue sustained in pre-season, but just can’t seem to get a look-in, with his only appearance this term coming in injury time against Queens Park Rangers, when the team was already two goals behind.

It must be deeply frustrating for Bany to be unable to show what he can do, and with the January transfer window looming, it could be the time to try and seek an exit on loan for the remainder of the season.

With this in mind, FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has given his thoughts over whether Bany should depart the club.

West Brom frustration aimed at Ryan Mason for Tammer Bany situation

Speaking to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess admitted he is “very frustrated” with Ryan Mason for the lack of game-time Tammer Bany has been receiving, and wouldn’t blame the Jordan international for seeking a move away from the club at the turn of the new year.

Callum said: “Personally, I would like to see Bany given more of a chance in Albion’s first team.

“I’m very frustrated with Mason and his reluctance to play him, his reluctance to play Daryl Dike, and keep offering the same players who have been out of form to have chance after chance.

“I think that you need to give players like Dike and Bany a chance to see if they can come good, because they’re going to get even more frustrated sitting on the bench, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it got to January, that they’ll be heading to Mason telling him ‘look, you’ve not given me a chance whatsoever, I want to go’.

“If it did end up becoming Bany’s wish to leave on loan in January, then I wouldn’t begrudge him for it, but personally I would like to see him given a chance in Albion’s team, whether it’s with Mason at the helm or someone else.”

Tammer Bany deserves better than what he is currently getting at West Brom

The Tammer Bany situation from the outside looking in is a puzzling one.

Despite netting twice against Sheffield United, Albion, for the majority of the season, have lacked a spark in the final third, and have been far too one-dimensional going forward under Ryan Mason.

Not to mention that both Isaac Price and Josh Maja, who have occupied places in the number ten position this season, are falling way below expectations with their performances of late. Both of them have not justified getting into the XI, but Mason continues to persevere with those options instead of utilising Bany.

We obviously don’t see what is going on in training, but from the small sample size of Bany in the Championship, he seems a player who is eager to get on the ball, possesses some trickery and wants to make an impact as an attacking player, particularly on show last season under Tony Mowbray when he had a 25-minute stint off the bench at Bristol City.

Bany could be the key to unlocking Albion’s forward line and getting the team so much more free-flowing in the advanced areas, but we’ll never know unless Mason gives him the opportunity to show what he can do.

You can understand the frustration of the supporters at Mason’s reluctance to do this, and you can't even imagine the agony Bany is feeling in comparison when he continuously watches on from the sidelines.

As our West Brom fan pundit Callum alluded to, you wouldn’t blame Bany in the slightest for wanting to move away, and if he does get his wish, it would be far from surprising to see him show Mason what he is missing.
