West Ham have ‘agreed’ a £25.3m fee with Lazio for Taty Castellanos, leaving Leeds United to miss out on a long-term target. According to Fabrizio Romano, the striker is closing on a move that ends Leeds’ pursuit.
He is due to undergo a medical before signing a long-term contract. Leeds had been pushing to recruit the Argentine forward this month.
Daniel Farke’s side strengthened their position with a 0-0 draw at Anfield that put seven points between them and West Ham. The east London club sit 18th with 14 points from their first 19 games.
Castellanos has scored two goals in 10 Serie A appearances this season, and missed six matches with a hamstring issue. The outlay would be a gamble given that return.
Leeds had alternative striker options on their list and will now turn to those targets. The club still have scope to strengthen this month despite losing out on Castellanos.
