West Ham suffered a new injury worry when Jean-Clair Todibo pulled out of the warm-up at Aston Villa, raising concern before Leeds United’s FA Cup quarter-final.
The Athletic reports he pointed to his calf during the warm-up. The £33m signing had been due to start with Axel Disasi and Konstantinos Mavropanos but was replaced by Freddie Potts as Nuno Espirito Santo switched to a back four.
Villa won 2-0, John McGinn scoring before the break and Ollie Watkins after it. The defeat left West Ham 18th, four points behind 15th-placed Leeds, who drew 0-0 at home to Brentford on Saturday. It was only their second defeat in seven league games.
Todibo has impressed recently under Espirito Santo. If the 26-year-old has a calf issue, he would be a major doubt for Leeds’ trip to the London Stadium in two weeks.
Crysencio Summerville is also sidelined with a calf problem, missing the last two games and a first Netherlands call-up. The former Leeds winger is likewise a doubt for the cup meeting with his old club in under a fortnight.
“It is not good to go into the international break with this feeling,” he told Sky Sports. “We didn’t play good, we have to react, do things better, and we are in the fight.” “I think the fans today felt disappointed with us, and that is what hurts the most.”
