West Ham United have entered the race to sign former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on loan in the January transfer window.
According to a report from Turkish newspaper Sozcu, the Hammers have made a move to sign the 31-year-old midfielder who currently plays for Besiktas.
West Ham have made contact with Besiktas to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain on loan, with an option to buy him next summer.
The report says that Brentford, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Nottingham Forest are also in the race to sign the midfielder who won one Champions League trophy with Liverpool.
According to The Sun, Championship outfit Leeds United are also in the race for his signature in the January window.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is a ‘dynamic’ midfielder, but he has struggled with injury problems in recent years. He wants to return to the Premier League and West Ham can provide him that opportunity.
The Hammers are also looking to exploit Besiktas’s financial situation, but they need to offload Tomas Soucek and James Ward-Prowse to free up the space for Oxlade-Chamberlain’s potential arrival.
West Ham need to sign a new midfielder in the next few days. Graham Potter could be looking to add an experienced player in midfield, and the former Arsenal star could be a smart option for them. The Irons must beat other potential suitors to sign him on loan at the earliest.
The Hammers have been linked with a move for Chelsea duo Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Carney Chukwuemeka, but as of now, they haven’t been able to reach an agreement.
If he can stay injury-free, signing him on loan makes a lot of sense. He is known for making driving runs into the box and taking long-range shots.
Signing him is a risk, but West Ham are only trying to get him on loan. If the loan move doesn’t work, they can easily send him back to Besiktas next summer.
