West Ham are reportedly closing in on the signing of talented Swiss forward Leila Wandeler from French giants Lyon.
The 19-year-old attacker has struggled for starts at Lyon, but played all four games for Switzerland at Euro 2025.
She was a surprise call-up to the Switzerland squad by head coach Pia Sundhage. However, she proved to be one of the young breakout stars of the tournament for the hosts.
With chances at Lyon limited, a move to the Women’s Super League could prove beneficial for the teenager.
Soccerdonna have reported that West Ham are close to bringing to the east London club.
Leila Wandeler started her career with Swiss side FC Corminbouef before having spells with FC Central FR and Young Boys.
She joined the Lyon academy in the summer of 2023, before making her senior debut for the French side in May 2024.
Wandeler’s first goal for Lyon’s senior team didn’t come until April 2024, when she netted the second goal in a 2-0 victory at Nantes.
Despite her limited game time in a stacked Lyon squad, she received a surprise call-up for Euro 2025.
She made her senior debut in their opening game against Finland, coming on just after half-time.
Wandeler is not the only Swiss player to since be linked with a move to the WSL.
Roma star Alayah Pilgrim is reportedly the subject of interest from WSL and National Women’s Soccer League sides.
West Ham have been busy during the summer transfer window already.
The Hammers signed England U23 international Sarah Brasero, who had spent the 2024-25 season playing in Portugal.
Rehanne Skinner’s side have also signed attacker Ffion Morgan from WSL2 side Bristol City and Japanese international Yu Endo.
Finnish midfielder Oona Siren joined the Hammers in the summer of 2024. The 20-year-old said she is ready to bounce back from Euros disappointment with Finland, who were knocked out at the group stage by Wandeler’s Switzerland and Norway.
West Ham start their season on Sunday, September 7th, away at London rivals Tottenham.
They have a tricky opening month which also includes fixtures against Arsenal, Brighton and Chelsea – all of which finished in the top-five last season.
Before the season gets underway, the Hammers will face Liverpool and Arsenal in pre-season friendlies.
WSL champions Chelsea start the season against Manchester City on the night of Friday, September 5th.
