West Ham United striker Niclas Fullkrug sustained an injury in training with Germany.

Fullkrug could be out for crucial games as the Hammers bid to climb up the league table after a frustrating start to the season.

According to national team coach Julian Nagelsmann (via Kicker), the West Ham forward suffered a torn muscle bundle in his thigh.

Fullkrug ‘will now likely have to sit out for several weeks.’ The news is a massive blow for West Ham as they need all hands on deck to turn around their 2025/26 campaign.

The Hammers have already crashed out of the League Cup and fallen into the relegation zone in the league.

West Ham sacked Graham Potter and appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as manager to galvanise the season.

Unfortunately, he will have to do it without Fullkrug, whose time at the East London club continues to underwhelm.

Signed for big money, injuries have disrupted his time at Rush Green.

The ‘effective’ Fullkrug has started Nuno’s first two games in charge and was likely hoping to find a new lease of life.

However, it is not to be, as the Portuguese tactician will have to call upon his other options to lead the line.

The equally injury-prone Callum Wilson is a like-for-like replacement, or Nuno could use Jarrod Bowen or Lucas Paqueta up top.

West Ham have only themselves to blame for this predicament.

The club’s decision to invest in ageing, injury-prone forwards rather than a young, hungry striker was short-sighted and poorly judged.

Fullkrug’s setback feels almost inevitable, and the signing of Wilson, another veteran with a long medical history, makes that miscalculation look even worse.

In a summer where the Hammers had to rejuvenate their attack and inject pace into a fading frontline, they instead doubled down on experience over evolution.

West Ham’s lack of foresight looks like an expensive blunder that could define another season of struggle in East London.
