West Ham United are in discussions with former Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters following the collapse of his proposed move to Besiktas, according to TalkSport. The 28-year-old, who became a free agent after leaving St Mary’s this summer, had been scheduled for a medical in Istanbul before withdrawing at the last minute.

Besiktas released a statement confirming they had “withdrawn their interest” after Walker-Peters requested a delay in travelling for his medical. “Our club continues its transfer efforts in accordance with its established policy,” the Turkish side added.
This turn of events has reopened Premier League doors for the defender, with West Ham quickly re-entering the conversation. Chairman David Sullivan is reported to be a long-time admirer of Walker-Peters, who offers versatility on both flanks and a wealth of top-flight experience.
Walker-Peters, who came through Tottenham’s academy, made 202 appearances for Southampton across multiple managerial tenures. His reliability and tactical adaptability make him an attractive prospect for a club still seeking defensive balance.
With the Hammers looking to reinforce ahead of another demanding season, Walker-Peters could offer immediate squad value and Premier League know-how.

Sullivan’s interest in Walker-Peters aligns with West Ham’s recent policy of cost-effective signings with proven experience. While no official offer has been made public, talks are said to be ongoing as Walker-Peters evaluates his options.
This potential move could appeal on both competitive and personal fronts, offering the defender a return to London and the platform to re-establish himself at the top level.
With Besiktas now out of the picture, Walker-Peters is expected to make a decision in the coming days. West Ham remain firmly in the race.
This is the type of low-risk, high-upside deal that makes perfect sense. Kyle Walker-Peters brings two things West Ham absolutely need: defensive depth and versatility. He has played right-back, left-back, and even in more advanced roles. At a time when full-back options are thin and the fixture list will be congested, he could be an extremely smart addition.
There’s something to be said for his experience as well. Over 200 appearances at a Premier League level under five different managers shows he can adapt, compete and survive under pressure. He is still only 28 and knows what is expected at this level.
It is also encouraging to see David Sullivan being proactive. When other clubs hesitate or miss out, the Hammers are stepping in with clear interest. Walker-Peters would not need time to adjust. He knows the league, he knows the expectations, and he would give them a reliable option from day one.
This may not be the flashy marquee signing, but it could be one of the smartest of the window.
