West Ham thrashed bottom-of-the-table Wolves 4-0 to climb out of the relegation zone at Tottenham’s expense. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the result has prompted a major shift in bookmakers’ predicted final Premier League table.
The Hammers began the weekend in the bottom three, narrowly behind Tottenham, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United. Playing first on Friday night at home, the match was goalless for 41 minutes before Taty Castellanos and Konstantinos Mavropanos each struck twice to seal a comprehensive win.
For the first time this season Spurs are in the drop zone, two points behind West Ham. West Ham are level on points with Forest and sit one point behind Leeds, who visit Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Tottenham travel to Sunderland on Sunday afternoon in new boss Roberto De Zerbi’s first match in charge. Forest host Aston Villa at the same time, both kicking off at two pm.
The ramifications for Leeds, Spurs and Forest are immediate, with margins tight before Sunday’s and Monday’s fixtures.
