In a recent interview with Football Insider, former scout Mick Brown mentioned that West Ham United are showing interest in Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira this summer. Brown said,
“Arsenal have been looking to sell Fabio Vieira.
“He doesn’t have a part to play under Mikel Arteta, so they want to cash in.
“His agent has been in contact with a number of clubs to find him that move, and I believe West Ham are one they’ve spoken to.
“Graham Potter wants to sign a new midfielder, so I have no doubt he’s a name on their list.
“But I would be surprised if they made a move for him now, to be honest.
“I think there are other names and different types of player who they would prefer to bring in.
“Personally I think they’d prefer more of an all-action, box-to-box midfielder who can contribute at both ends of the pitch, not just going forward.
“I don’t think Vieira has shown that at all at Arsenal, he’s not that type of player.
“So as I say, I wouldn’t expect them to make a move for him.”
Vieira had a decent loan spell at Porto in the previous campaign when he produced a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Portuguese attacker was involved in 39 matches for the Portuguese outfit last season, scoring five times and earning five assists across multiple competitions.

The 25-year-old did well to average 2.25 shots per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He kept 32.6% of his attempts on target. Vieira was even accurate when distributing the ball in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 79.2% in the Portuguese top flight (stats via fbref.com).
Vieira is a good dribbler with the ball and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third. He can strike the ball well from long range and can chip in by scoring and creating a few important goals for his team.
However, the Portuguese talent has struggled to prove his worth in Premier League football and could benefit from a change of scenery in search of regular first-team starts in the coming years.
