West Ham United goalkeeper Rebekah Dowsett has signed her first professional contract with the club.

Dowsett joined West Ham United from their Barclays Women’s Super League rivals Leicester City last summer and she was placed into the club’s Professional Game Academy League squad at the start of the season. The youngster has also gained some first team playing experience in a dual-registration spell with FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division club Watford.

On the international stage, Dowsett has represented England at Under-17 level.

The keeper has a big future in the game and she will spend the next three-and-a-half years developing with West Ham United.

After signing professional terms with the East Londoners, Dowsett said “I started playing football with the boys in the playground at school so to be signing my first professional deal at the age of 18, and especially at this Club, is a really proud moment. To have my family here with me today makes it extra special too.

“I love being part of the goalkeepers’ union at West Ham. Kinga [Szemik], Meg [Walsh] and Katie [O’Hanlon] are lovely people and I have learnt a lot from them already. Chris [Pipe] has been a really positive influence on me as well – he gives detailed feedback and has helped me to improve on things I need to work on.

“I have the hunger to continue developing as a player and to achieve more. I’m really excited for this next step in my career.”

Dowsett has returned from her dual-registration spell with Watford and will now link-up with West Ham United’s Professional Game Academy League side again for the time being.
