FC Barcelona have a tradition of producing extremely talented youngsters through La Masia. In many ways, it resembles a factory more than an academy, given its consistency.
The latest in a long list of talents to have come through La Masia and made it to the first team is Pedro Fernandez, popularly known as Dro.
The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has impressed with his quality on the ball, technical ability in tight spaces, and a maturity that belies his tender age.
Understandably, his impact on Hansi Flick’s team has prompted interest from Premier League clubs. According to Fichajes, West Ham United have expressed interest in the La Masia gem.
Predominantly a No. 10 who can also play on the left, Dro is a huge talent. Based on initial impressions, he has an incredibly high ceiling in the game.
West Ham United are a struggling side in the Premier League, and it makes no sporting or financial sense for the 17-year-old Spanish gem to move to the London Stadium.
If he stays in Barcelona, he has the potential to become a starter for the best club in the world. Having come through La Masia, that dream will be burning bright.
West Ham, or any other club for that matter, can forget about signing Dro. Barcelona have never been in the business of selling their talented assets, and they are not going to start now.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Dro. Flick sees something special in him, and let us hope he gets more chances to showcase his quality in the coming months.
