West Ham face Leeds on Sunday, knowing that their fate is out of their hands and even a win might not be enough to extend their 14-year stay in the Premier League (kick-off 4pm, live on Sky Sports).
To avoid joining Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley in the Championship next season, they need to rely on Everton beating Tottenham and them winning at home to Leeds, which, based on recent form, is going to be difficult.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have lost their last three in a row against Brentford, Arsenal and Newcastle United and have won just three of their last 12 to leave them two points from safety heading into the final day.
Understandably, the Hammers are the favourites for the drop, with football betting sites offering 1/6 on them to go down, while you can get 11/2 on Spurs being relegated.
Leeds were among the favourites for the drop at the start of the season, and the pressure was already on boss Daniel Farke, but he led them to the FA Cup semi-final, and they currently sit 14th in the league, 11 points clear of the bottom three.
They are unbeaten in their last eight games, a run which includes four wins against Manchester United, Wolves, Burnley and Brighton and draws against Crystal Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth and Spurs.
This is their longest unbeaten run since a 13-game streak between May and November 2001 and they also remained unbeaten in the last nine games of the 1994/95 Premier League campaign.
Leeds have won away at West Ham more times than at any other ground in the Premier League, with seven victories, but they lost on their last visit, going down 3-1 in May 2023.
Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen and Manuel Lanzini all scored for the home side, who came from behind to win 3-1 that day.
Betting sites have the home side as the favourites for the win at 5/6, while you can get 3/1 on Leeds securing their 12th win of the season.
With so much pressure on West Ham, coupled with Leeds playing out 14 draws so far this season, we’re backing this one to finish all square.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin played just 26 games last season for Everton, scoring three goals, but his summer move to Leeds United has reinvigorated the 29-year-old.
This season, he has scored 15 goals but, crucially, has made 39 appearances and been a key figure in Leeds’ first season back in the Premier League.
He also scored in Leeds’ FA Cup win over Sunday’s opponents back in April, when he converted from the penalty spot to give Leeds a 2-0 lead in the capital before Axel Disasi and Mateus Fernandes both scored in added time to send the game into extra time.
Leeds went on to win on penalties, setting up the semi-final with Chelsea, where they were beaten 1-0.
He has scored three in his last three games, and betting apps are offering a reasonable price of 37/20 on him adding to his tally this weekend.
