The Owls' former owner has been punished for his actions at Hillsborough

To some Sheffield Wednesday supporters, the name of Dejphon Chansiri is one which they hope to never hear of again after his controversial ownership tenure at Hillsborough.

However, others, and those on the outside, will somewhat be looking on with intrigue as to what comes next for the Thailand-born businessman, particularly after it was revealed that he was served with a three-year ban from football ownership, just over a month after he placed the cash-strapped Owls into administration at the end of October.

Wednesday's season was over before it had even begun in the eyes of thousands in the Steel City and on the outside, with Henrik Pedersen replacing Danny Rohl as manager after the German had publicly fallen out with Chansiri amid several instances of delayed wage payments to the club's players, management and administrative staff towards the end of the 2024/25 season and into pre-season.

As such, several experienced figures would depart the club, including Josh Windass and Michael Smith, who moved to divisional rivals Wrexham and Preston North End after disputes following the aforementioned instances of delayed wage payments, leaving Pedersen with very little in the way of experience, depth and room to manouvre in the previous transfer window as a result of several transfer and registration-themed embargoes, bans and restrictions.

In the final window of Chansiri's 10-year spell in the S6 boardroom, only Ethan Horvath and Harry Amass were signed on loan from Cardiff City and Manchester United respectively, with the Red Devils paying every penny of the youngster's loan switch across the Pennines in order to aid the Championship's crisis club.

Wednesday have since been docked 18 points after Chansiri's spell as owner ended in the autumn, whilst Begbies Traynor continue to search for their preferred new owner of the club.

However, Football League World has asked AI-based chatbot, ChatGPT, what Chansiri's next moves will be after his recent ban was confirmed.

Despite the aforementioned ban which Chansiri has been served with, it is fair to say that his involvement in a takeover saga full of twists and turns is yet to fully diminish.

Indeed, it has now been reported that whoever takes over the League One-bound outfit will have to part with a significant £15m sum which will be paid into Chansiri's individual accounts - a scenario which is said to be putting off potential bidders, which includes the likes of former Crystal Palace owner and talkSPORT pundit, Simon Jordan.

Rather unsurprisingly, AI believes that the Thai-based businessman's next steps in life are to restore his integrity after years of criticism which came his way after completing a £30m takeover of the South Yorkshire club from Milan Mandaric in early 2015.

After two failed play-off campaigns where Hull City and Huddersfield Town denied the Owls a first shot at the Premier League since 2000, it has been a downward slope for the club and Chansiri's reputation, which wasn't particularly helped by reports which claimed that he would continue to hold out for a sum of £100m to relinquish control of the club despite it, quite obviously in the eyes of many, being worth far less.

The aforementioned ban only applies to clubs within the EFL's umbrella, so AI has failed to rule out the possibility of Chansiri becoming involved in the sport in a lesser-known country or even his native Thailand, although it also claims that his reputation could even be damaged to the point where clubs abroad and worldwide would rather opt to steer clear of his business services.

AI also claims that Chansiri will also focus on limiting his own financial damage after failing to receive the sum of money which he hoped to have gained when passing control of Wednesday to its latest custodian.

Sheffield Wednesday will hope for a brighter future after Dejphon Chansiri's exit

There was a mass outpouring of relief amongst supporters when Chansiri's exit was effectively rubber-stamped in October, with those who had boycotted against his ownership quickly returning to S6 en masse to back Pedersen and his players.

At present, it remains uncertain who the club's next owner will be as we head towards 2026. But, it is a clear step in the right direction as Wednesday must take a step back into League One in order to progress forward.

If a takeover can soon be ratified, then the club are likely to start next season on 0 points, which gives them a fair chance of promotion, as well as the hope of using its history and stature to lure high-quality players in for the start of a long-term rebuild akin to that previously of Ipswich Town and Birmingham City.
