Burnley have promised their supporters something already ahead of their return to the Championship from the Premier League...
Burnley have spent the last five seasons either fighting for promotion or fighting off relegation, but they are back in the Championship for 2026/27 after a 1-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League.
Having finished 10th in 2019/20, Burnley have then survived by the skin of their teeth in 17th, before finishing 18th and getting relegated the season after. Vincent Kompany won the league before finishing 19th, and Scott Parker has guided them to second and relegation again.
As a team who will be in receipt of parachute payments next term, Burnley will be expected to compete for promotion once again next year. Wolverhampton Wanderers will be joining them, with one of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, or Nottingham Forest looking likely to be the other.
The club have to go again, which will require selling some of their best assets to top leagues around Europe. They will then need to rebuild the squad and make it strong enough to compete, as you cannot afford to waste the first two years when parachute payments are aiding you.

The Clarets are sat on 20 points and have won four of 34 games, which is why so many fans feel let down by ALK Capital and Parker this season, having achieved 100 points in 46 Championship games last term.
They need a sense of direction and optimism as we head towards the summer, albeit they will also want to avoid finishing bottom of the league and ahead of Wolves. Burnley face Leeds United away, Aston Villa at home, Arsenal away, and Wolves on the final day of the season.
After full-time at Turf Moor last night, Burnley released the statement below, with a few key lines about how the club will move forward from here exactly what the fans need to hear ahead of 2026/27.
The final lines read: "We would like to thank our supporters that have been with us through every high and low, home and away. That continued support is fundamental to everything we do.
"Burnley football club has 144 years of history. It has never been defined by a single season, but by its ability to respond and move forward."

Burnley have 101, 24, 100, and 20 points over the last four seasons, so it's fair to say that they are often able to bounce back. However, putting into perspective how things have been under ALK Capital is why so many fans are frustrated.
In 132 Premier League games pre-30 December 2020, they won 44, lost 55, with 1.25 points per game. In 133 PL games post-Dec 2020 and the leveraged takeover by ALK Capital/Velocity Sports, they have won 22, lost 75, -101 goal difference, with 0.75 points per game.
There have also been three relegations in 3.5 seasons, with five seasons in a row of surviving or finishing in the top half prior to them taking charge. That is why fans are perhaps disillusioned somewhat after this season.
That statement now needs to be put into action — and Burnley have to compete next season. If they go up again in 2027, the Clarets need to make things stick after numerous years of yo-yoing.
There's uncertainty surrounding Scott Parker's future at this moment in time, which will need to be resolved first before Burnley can look forward to yet another rebuilding process in the Championship.
