The Owls have been struggling financially this year, which has led to the club going into administration earlier this month.

It was reported that a bill worth around £1 million is owed to HMRC, which has proven the straw that broke the camel’s back.

The Championship side were handed an automatic 12 point deduction penalty as a consequence, with Begbies Traynor appointed to resolve the situation.

A new owner is set to be found, with Chansiri’s time at Sheffield Wednesday almost at an end.

Labour MP Clive Betts has revealed that Chansiri made contact with Coppard last week in a bid to resolve the issue with HMRC.

He revealed that the Thai businessman hoped that the mayor would be able to end the tax man’s pursuit of the £1 million owed.

“Out of the blue last Sunday, he suddenly got in touch with the mayor and said ‘can I talk to you?’,” said Betts, via All Wednesday with Joe Crann on YouTube.

“The mayor being the mayor, is responsible to all the people in south Yorkshire, he had a conversation and I think, without going into details and going into confidentiality, I think Mr. Chansiri’s ideas of what the mayor could do, including stopping the tax man pursuing him, was probably a little bit far removed from reality.”

Sheffield Wednesday have failed to pay staff on time on multiple occasions this year, including in five of the last seven months, which has led to a number of players terminating their contracts.

Danny Rohl also departed as head coach in the summer after he guided the team to a 12th place finish, leaving his assistant Henrik Pedersen in charge.

It has been a difficult start to the season for the Yorkshire outfit, who are bottom of the Championship table, now 16 points adrift of safety after only 12 games due to their deduction.

Pedersen’s side have minus six points, leaving them cut adrift from the rest of the division, and all but ensuring their relegation to League One.

Next up for Sheffield Wednesday is a trip to face West Brom on 1 November in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Sheffield Wednesday will be much better off without Dejphon Chansiri

This is further evidence that Chansiri hadn’t a clue of what he was doing with Sheffield Wednesday, and that he simply wasn’t fit for the role of club owner.

The Owls will be much better off without him being involved, which is what the administrators will now be working on.

It’s astonishing that it’s gotten to this point, but there should be no shortage of viable buyers lining up to take over, so there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
