Derby fans enjoyed their Monday night trip to Hillsborough, and had a message for Sheffield Wednesday fans about enjoying the demise of rival clubs.

Derby County supporters had plenty of reason to enjoy their trip to Hillsborough on Monday night, and they had a message for Wednesday fans as well.

A comfortable 3-0 win from their Monday night trip to Hillsborough to play Sheffield Wednesday was enough to make the journey more than worthwhile for Derby County fans.

The result lifted their team to 12th place in the Championship, while Wednesday remain marooned at the bottom of the table, now 29 points adrift of safety as a result of points deductions over their financial mismanagement and subsequent collapse into administration.

But Sheffield Wednesday fans hoping for a little solidarity from fans of the last EFL club prior to find themselves in this predicament ended the evening disappointed, because Derby fans had a message for those who'd indulged in a little off-colour singing at Pride Park when Derby were in dire straits several years ago.

Derby fans were singing "pro-Chansiri chants" during their team's win at Hillsborough

Sheffield Star reporter Alex Miller posted to the social media platform X on Monday evening that, "Less than a minute gone and Derby fans sing "We're all having a party when Sheffield Wednesday dies" followed by pro-Chansiri chants."

He added that this was, "Possibly a response to footage of a few Owls fans singing the same outside Pride Park during the Rams' strife a few years ago."

This, of course, led to substantial debate in the replies. Some Sheffield Wednesday fans replied by pointing out that this singing might have been a little after the event, since it's now only a matter of time before new ownership at Hillsborough is confirmed and Dejphon Chansiri becomes part of their past:

While others claimed that it involved more than "a few Owls fans" involved in this previous incident:

While some Derby fans admitted that they don't like this sort of singing from the fans of any club, including their own:

Fans celebrating the potential demise of each others' clubs is best recorded as a goalless draw

It's not immediately clear which specific match is being referred to as a result of Alex Miller's tweet and the replies to it. Derby County were in administration from September 2021 to July 2022, and since they were in the Championship at that time while Sheffield Wednesday were in League One, the two teams didn't meet that season.

Derby avoided relegation on the final day of the 2020-21 season thanks to a dramatic 3-3 draw against Wednesday, a result which also relegated their opponents, but fans were not allowed inside grounds at that time because of pandemic restrictions. Derby fans congregated outside Pride Park regardless that day.

By the time that the two teams met again in December 2022, following Derby's relegation into League One at the end of the following season, the Rams were under new ownership and safe. One tweet from a Derby County fan indicates that it was this match:

Of course, when it comes to points-scoring between rival fans, little consideration is usually given to niceties, and there will be some among the fan bases of all clubs who will be inclined to celebrate the downfall of another club. This would appear to have been the case in both December 2022 at Pride Park and December 2025 at Hillsborough.

But given that the Sheffield Wednesday songs came after Derby County had been saved, while the Derby County songs came at a time when it's commonly understood that Sheffield Wednesday will be saved, perhaps the only reasonable conclusion to reach from this head-to-head would be to say that this particular match-up ended as something of a goalless draw.
