Benoit Badiashile has only been at Chelsea for a couple of years, but we’ve already seen several rounds of rumours linking him away.

After an impressive first 6 months at the club in difficult circumstances after signing in January 2023, the defender struggled through all of last season, and hasn’t made much improvement this campaign under Enzo Maresca either. He spends most of his time on the bench, getting the occasional outing for the B team in the Conference League and cups.

You can see why there are endless rumours about him leaving – he doesn’t seem to have a hope of cracking the first team. But until now none of the potential destinations have seemed that convincing. Chelsea paid something like £35m for him, and wouldn’t make to make a major loss. And there’s nobody out there willing to offer anything close.

But that may change now thanks to events in Turin. Juventus have lost two central defenders in quick succession, and will almost certainly look to make a January move to cover themselves, with CaughtOffside linking them to Badiashile.

The Old Lady aren’t likely to drop big money, but we can see a loan deal with an option to buy suiting both parties.

Chelsea to consider depth issues if bid comes in

If Badiashile were to leave, Chelsea would feel a little short handed at the back – but they’d know that Aaron Anselmino is coming to join in the future, plus there are a host of talented young central defenders in the academy and out on loan too.

It still seems like a risk the Blues wouldn’t take however, given Wesley Fofana’s injury record, and Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi’s slightly dodgy form, even against weaker opposition.

If Juve are really desperate however, and make a big bid, anything is possible.
