Owen Otasowie’s rise from the Wolves academy to a brief, turbulent spell at Club Brugge has given way to silence on the pitch, with the 25-year-old, who has a senior international cap, not playing professionally since. According to ExpressAndStar.com, Belgian media later alleged he went absent without leave at Brugge and the club stopped paying him, and he has since moved into fashion, with reports of a clothing label and Burberry modelling.
New York-born Otasowie moved from the US to London to live with family and was picked up by Wolves despite only beginning football in his early teens. He climbed the academy, made his senior bow against Besiktas in the Europa League, then came off the bench for a Premier League debut at Chelsea, assisting Daniel Podence.
A first start followed at Burnley in December 2020. Rated highly, he was offered new terms and was reportedly linked with Arsenal, Liverpool, PSG and Juventus.
He rejected the contract and joined Club Brugge for a reported £3.5m. After only a few outings, his final appearance came for Club NXT, Brugge’s reserve side, within two years of his Wolves debut. In total he made two first-team appearances, one in the league, and four for Club NXT.
He was linked with loan moves to Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday. Since then he has remained out of view, though fans have recently shared TikTok clips on X of him in fashion videos. Former academy chief Scott Sellars once called him an interesting character.
