Paris Saint-Germain have secured their 13th Ligue 1 title after a tightly contested 1-0 win over Angers on Saturday at Parc des Princes.

The first half ended scoreless, with PSG firing 11 shots and Angers managing just two. Despite the high shot count, neither side could find the net, and they went into the break 0-0.

PSG broke through Angers’ defense in the second half, thanks to a brilliant combination between Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué. Kvaratskhelia sent in a cross from the left to the far post, where Doué arrived at full speed and volleyed it in with his right foot, giving PSG a 1-0 lead.

The lone goal from the teenage Frenchman was all the Parisians would need to secure the victory for the second straight league title under Luis Enrique. After the match Marquinhos spoke to beIN Sports to discuss what this title means.

“It’s crazy, I’m very happy,” Marquinhos said (h/t RMC Sport). “Staying a long time in a top-level team is truly a challenge. The titles will remain in history. We have the ambition to win everything. When we don’t win the French championship, it hurts, and that has happened to me twice.

“The team deserves to win. It’s in our DNA to give everything on the field, to have an aggressive philosophy, to sweat for the jersey in every match, no matter the opponent. Since I was young, I’ve played for teams with this DNA. It’s nice to see the supporters happy.”

Moreover, Marquinhos also shed light on the early preparations for the first leg against Aston Villa in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

“I’m not here for Aston Villa, but I am here nonetheless,” Marquinhos added. “We will prepare well. We come in with three victories, the end of the season is very exciting, with great things to pursue. We will stick to our mentality, the coach is very good for that.”
